    Traditional Edict

    Water Primrose (Inai Pasir Besar / Shui Ding Xiang). 8-ribbed clove capsules and showy yellow flowers. Powerfully clears toxic damp-heat, drains acute nephritis dropsy and albuminuria, halts bloody dysentery, clears hepatitis jaundice, stops toothache.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Maintain adequate electrolyte balance during prolonged diuretic administration. High clinical safety. Contraindicated in cold deficiency watery diarrhea without heat signs.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute and chronic glomerulonephritis with severe edema and proteinuria, acute bacillary dysentery (Shigella), acute icteric hepatitis, acute cystitis, and periodontal toothache.

    Quality Markers

    Oleanolic Acid >= 1.00%, Corilagin, Gallic Acid & Total Tannins >= 5.00% (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Oleanolic acid and corilagin suppress renal cortical iNOS, TNF-a, and TGF-b1, reducing podocyte injury and proteinuria. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte surface proteins to arrest diarrhea. 3. Choleretic transaminase reduction.

    Preparation & Dosage

    Whole dried herb in decoction: 15-30 g daily (up to 60 g in acute severe nephritis edema). THE SOVEREIGN WATER CLOVE NEPHRITIS BROTH: 30 g dried plant boiled with Leonurus japonicus (Yi Mu Cao) and Poria cocos for 30 min. Fresh poultice: 30-50 g.
